    Network Infrastructure & Services

A Wide Area Network (WAN) typically connects Local Area Network (LAN) segments at geographically dispersed locations to permit communication across the entire organization. The Internet is simply the interconnection of thousands of WANs around the globe. In the late 1980's and early 1990's, NRNS personnel developed IP router technology to establish Internet connections to Department of National Defence (DND) research network. NRNS has since played a lead role in the design and implementation of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police National Police Services Network (NPSNet), which includes over 1500 routers spread across every corner of the country. Not only can NRNS assist your organization with the design, implementation and maintenance of efficient and robust network infrastructure, we can also help you establish related services such as Domain Name System (DNS), E-mail gateways and proxy/caching servers.

    IT Security

The Internet has given us the ability to communicate with anyone from virtually everywhere on the planet. Unfortunately this universality exposes your organization to serious threats from hackers and intruders who want to steal your information or disrupt your business. Your IT infrastructure represents a substantial investment and your proprietary data and business secrets contain the key to your continued prosperity. NRNS offers security services to protect your IT infrastructure and ensure your organization's continued success using proven strategies, technologies, and techniques combined to provide innovative customized solutions. Our skilled and experienced professionals are available to assist you with security policy development, security architecture design and implementation, vulnerability assessments as well as incident response.

    Public Key Infrastructure

Public Key Infrastructures (PKI) manage digital keys and certificates across an enterprise and promote the use of encryption for privacy and digital signatures for authentication, non-repudiation and authorization. PKI deployment requires careful planning to ensure that the certificate policies reflect the organization’s needs, operational procedures are well documented and understood, and that PKI systems are secured. NRNS can assist your organization with the development of Certificate Policies & Certificate Practice Statements, the development of Operational Procedures for the various PKI roles, and with the design and implementation of PKI systems.

    Directory Services

Large organizations require an easily accessible repository to store information associated with their enterprise. X.500 directories can store information such as e-mail addresses, digital certificates and access rights. These distributed repositories can be accessed using standards based directory access protocols available within  many commercial off the shelf products such as web browsers and e-mail clients. Well designed and robust directory services form a critical component of today’s complex IT infrastructures. NRNS can assist your organization with all aspects of directory design and deployment. This includes the design of the directory schema and namespace, the design of the directory topology including replication strategies and the installation and maintenance of directory servers.

    Messaging

Without question, messaging systems are one of the most critical applications within organizations today. These systems range from corporate e-mail systems and mission critical operational messaging systems through to inter-organizational e-mail and messaging in support of Business to Business (B2B) information exchanges. NRNS has assisted a number of organizations to facilitate their messaging needs and we can assist yours as well. Our expertise includes reliable connection-oriented technologies such as that defined within the international X.400 protocol suite, the RCMP’s Canada-wide Operational Messaging System, and proprietary products such as MQSeries; Application Integration Products (AIP) such as IBM’s MQSI (now WebSphere); and corporate e-mail systems based on SMTP or proprietary products such as Microsoft Exchange or GroupWise. Finally, our staff has hands-on experience with messaging systems within high availability and secure environments.

    High Availability

IT infrastructures typically require high availability to fulfill operational requirements. Availability requirements must be known before the network infrastructure and system components can be designed. Various levels of robustness can be achieved with redundant or spare components, high-availability clustering, fault-tolerant hardware, detailed system build documents, intelligent backup and restore procedures, as well as disaster recovery infrastructure and comprehensive disaster recovery plans. NRNS can assist your organization in increasing the availability level of your IT infrastructure.
